Reflection 10.10.16

Dear God,
Speak gently in my silence.
When the loud outer noises of my surroundings
and the loud inner noises of my fears
keep pulling me away from you,
help me to trust that you are still there
even when I am unable to hear you.
Give me ears to listen to your small, soft voice saying:
“Come to me, you who are overburdened,
and I will give you rest…
for I am gentle and humble of heart.”
Let that loving voice be my guide.

As a child, I was constantly aware of a certain experience of falling. Of a spiraling down (at night) that felt like fun. When Adam and Eve fell, their awareness of God’s presence was replaced by a pleasurable spiraling down. Both soon became distracted by an ‘innocent’ lightheartedness. That same lightheartedness separated them from their one and only true Source of knowing exactly what they were becoming.. How can we see that we are off-course and in grave danger when the path we take is an enjoyable one? Indeed, One Source, help us to see the serpent’s lie at the very moment of its most gentle attack.. Lest we fall prey to our imagined ‘innocence’, and then continue to spiral down.
