Next Steps for Calling our Pastor
As those of you who attended last night’s “Meet the Candidate” gathering know, Elizabeth Gibbs Zehnder is the candidate for Pastor of Immanuel. The Pastor Nominating Committee worked hard with the assistance and support of the Committee on Ministry to discern the candidate called to be our Pastor. The Committee on Ministry unanimously supports our selection of Elizabeth as our candidate for Pastor.
For those of you who asked when we began this process why Elizabeth didn’t simply become pastor upon Frank’s resignation, it was explained that a search was required and, in fact, Elizabeth was not an eligible candidate under the Presbyterian Church’s Book of Order. A recent change in the Book of Order removed the disqualification of Associate and Interim Pastors as possible candidates but there is an additional step required when a church seeks to install as Pastor a current Associate Pastor.
After approval by the Congregation, the Presbytery must approve the exception to call the current Associate Pastor by a 3/4 vote. As previously announced, the Congregational Meeting to approve the terms of Elizabeth’s Call will be July 15 during the All Together Worship service. The Presbytery of the Pacific will meet and vote to approve the exception to permit Elizabeth’s Call on July 28.
As noted above, the Committee on Ministry unanimously supports our selection of Elizabeth as Pastor of Immanuel and will be presenting the motion that she be approved as Immanuel’s Pastor by Presbytery. We expect voters to approve Elizabeth’s Call and to be able to report on Sunday, July 29, that Elizabeth is our Pastor!
Other than those from Immanuel, who we know will be supporting Elizabeth’s candidacy, if you know any members of Presbytery who will be voting on July 28, let them know you/we encourage them to vote “yes” on the motion.
Próximos pasos para Llamar nuestra Pastora
Como aquellos de ustedes que asistieron la reunión del “Encuentro con el/la Candidato/a” ya saben, Elizabeth Gibbs Zehnder es la candidata para Pastora de Immanuel. El Comité de Nombramientos para un/a Pastor/a trabajo duro con la asistencia y el apoyo del Comité de Ministerio para percibir el/la candidato/a llamado/a para ser nuestro/a Pastor/a. El Comité de Ministerio apoya por unanimidad nuestra selección de Elizabeth como nuestra candidata por Pastora.
Para aquellos de ustedes que preguntaron cuando comenzamos este proceso porque Elizabeth no pudo ser la nueva Pastora cuando Frank sometió su resignación, fue explicado que una búsqueda fue requerida y, de hecho, Elizabeth no fue una candidata elegible bajo el Libro de Orden de la Iglesia Presbiteriana. Un reciente cambio en el Libro de Orden quito la descalificación de Pastores Asociados e Interinos como posibles candidatos pero existe un requerido paso adicional cuando una Iglesia busca a instalar como Pastor/a un actual Pastor/a Asociado/a.
Después de aprobación por la congregación, el Presbiterio necesita aprobar la excepción para llamar el/la actual Pastor/a Asociado/a por un voto de 3/4. Como previamente fue anunciado, la Reunión Congregacional para aprobar los términos de la Llamada de Elizabeth será el 15 de julio durante el Servicio de Adorando Todos/as Juntos/as. El Presbiterio del Pacifico se reunirá y votara el 28 de julio para aprobar la excepción para permitir la Llamada de Elizabeth.
Como es notado arriba, el Comité de Ministerio con unanimidad apoya nuestra selección de Elizabeth como Pastora de Immanuel y estará presentando la moción que sea aprobada como la Pastora de Immanuel por el Presbiterio. ¡Esperamos que los votantes aprueban la llamada de Elizabeth y poder reportar el domingo, 29 de julio que Elizabeth ya es nuestra Pastora!
Aparte de aquellos en Immanuel quien sabemos estarán apoyando la candidatura de Elizabeth, si conocen miembros del Presbiterio que estarán votando el 28 de julio, infórmenlos que usted/nosotros les animamos a votar “si” en la moción.
